DCOM #2–You Lucky Dog – (100 DCOMs Binge and Blog Challenge)

The famed and controversial actor, Kirk Cameron stars in the 1998 DCOM “You Lucky Dog.” This DCOM is just the second of over one hundred Disney Channel Original Movies. Cameron’s character Jack is an alleged psychic dog therapist. As he’s grown older, he’s lost his childhood gift of being a dog whisperer. However, when a man named Mr. Windsor shows up with his dog, Lucky, Jack gets a vibe from Lucky and starts to freak out. When Mr. Windsor passes away, his assistant, Mr. Bridges, visits Jack to tell him that he has a meeting with Mr. Windsor’s attorney. Mr. Windsor left his 54-million-dollar fortune to his dog, Lucky. Mr. Windsor has requested in his will that Jack become Lucky’s trustee. As trustee, Jack is to take care of Lucky and live in Mr. Windsor’s home so that he can spend the money according to Lucky’s desires.

Throughout the beginning of the movie, we start to see that Jack is a true dog whisperer. Whatever Lucky tastes or feels, Jack also tastes and feels. For instance, when Lucky gets an itch, Jack also gets an itch. When Lucky is chewing on a leather shoe, Jack gets an odd taste of leather in his mouth.

The last remaining living heirs of Mr. Windsor plot to get the money back for themselves. To get the money back, they have to prove that Jack is mentally incapable of being Lucky’s trustee. It seems that it won’t be too hard for the heirs to prove Jack is mentally incapable, because he is a bit crazy. The heirs begin to plot to cause Lucky to have an accident so that they can get the money that way.

Jack begins to hear exactly what Lucky is saying and thinking. He starts to freak out because it’s been a long time since he was last able to speak to dogs. The maids overhear Jack having a legitimate conversation with Lucky. Jack warns Lucky not to get too excited, but doesn’t explain why when Lucky asks why. Then when Lucky does get too excited over a bone he buried, we see why Jack warned him not to get too excited. Jack more or less becomes a dog himself. They start to dig up the lawn in search for the bone and then tear up the living room sofa and pillows. They even howl at the moon. The maids become afraid that the devil has possessed Jack so they run away.

When Jack becomes himself again, he can’t remember exactly what happened the night before. They have a serious chat about staying calm for now on. Mr. Bridges overhears that conversation and also seems to think Jack is crazy. He chooses to hear Jack out though.

In a flashback, Lucky remembers the night Mr. Windsor passed away. It was a cold and rainy night. When Lucky walks off for a moment, Mr. Windsor drops to his death. Lucky explains to Jack that he feels responsible for Mr. Windsor’s death. To try to cheer Lucky up, Jack suggests a change of scenery. Lucky exclaims he wants to go to the mall. Of course, he gets excited and Jack becomes the dog. To his credit, Mr. Bridges goes along with it as if it’s quite normal. As the movie progresses, Jack seems crazier and crazier.

The heirs break into Lucky’s house and plan to sedate him so they can make him disappear. They make a lot of noise while making their way through the house though and wake Jack in the process. Jack and Lucky wake Mr. Bridges up so that they can catch whoever is intruding.

After failing at their own plan, the heirs choose to take a wealthy lawyer up on his offer to smear Jack’s name. During the legal case, the actress who plays the judge is none other than Patricia Belcher whom any Disney Channel fan now knows as Mrs. Dabney. Jack’s attorney Alison Taylor starts to give up the case. Jack convinces her to put him on the stand so that he can channel Lucky though.

After Jack and Lucky are able to prove their psychic connection, Lucky has a flashback. In Lucky’s second flashback, we see that Mr. Windsor was poisoned and that’s why he died. The heirs are arrested and lucky and Jack get to keep everything. Jack and Alison, who flirted a bit throughout the movie, subtly make plans for a future together.

Lucky summed up the moral of the story perfectly. “Mr. Windsor knew Jack had something extra going for him. And with my help he’s starting to learn how to get the best out of life. Jack’s not crazy… You’ve got to enjoy every minute of your life. It’s the simple things that matter… Enjoy them while you can, because you could run out into the street, get hit by a bus, and boom! Lights out.”

Though a bit kooky at times, this is a great movie! It’s especially great to watch as a family! Out of the 100 DCOMs, there are a few that are a bit over the heads of my younger siblings, but this movie is great! I’d watch it with my parents, by myself, with siblings or with my two-year-old nephew.

DCOM #1–Under Wraps – (100 DCOMs Binge and Blog Challenge)

“Under Wraps,” aka the original DCOM, begins with cute, creepy crawly opening credits. We first see the main characters, apparently best buds, leaving a movie theater after watching a horror movie. Gilbert is seemingly afraid of everything, while Marshall is seemingly fearless. As they walk home, the boys pass the home of a scary old man named, Kubat. The boys decide to confront the old man, but are instead scared away. They run all the way to Marshall’s house, where Gilbert leaves him for the night.

After Gilbert leaves, we learn that Marshall’s parents are divorced and that his mother is dating someone. Her boyfriend seems very nice, but Marshall goes straight to his room instead of spending time with them. His mom follows him and they discuss how her boyfriend is a nice guy. He agrees, but still opts to stay in his room.

The next scene shows the boys eating lunch with a girl named, Amy, who informs them that Kubat died of a heart attack. The three of them decide to go investigating at his house. While there, they find a live mummy. At first he chases them and they’re terrified. Then he finds a bathroom and calms down after using it. Lets me honest, that’s kind of dumb, but also hilarious. 🤷🏼‍♀️😂 After that, they realize he seems to be kind.

As the movie progresses, the kids grow attached to the mummy and name him, Herold. Herold eventually finds himself at a museum where he finds his mummified true love. Unexpectedly, the movie almost becomes a love story after this. From this scene on, the movie is about three kids trying to reunite a mummy with his true love before it’s too late. Their greatest obstacle comes in the form of Kubat who wasn’t really dead after all. He was a museum curator who faked his death so that he could sell stolen artifacts, including Herold, on the black market.

After much adventure, Herold, Marshall, Amy, and shop owner, Bruce, get caught by Kubat and his goons. None other than scaredy-cat Gilbert saves the day though. Just in the nick of time, Herold is reunited with his true love. Marshall learns a valuable lesson about love and tells his mom to marry her boyfriend. Amy and Marshall also show signs of their own budding love story.

All in all, it’s actually a cute movie and I’m glad I finally watched it. Believe it or not, and despite the compulsion werewolves and especially vampires tend to have on me, I’m not really a fan of monsters. So, before this challenge, I never cared to watch this movie. Now I can say I actually recommend it at least once! If for no other reason that it’s certainly a great story to begin the legacy of Disney Channel Original Movies.

100 DCOMs Watch and Write Challenge

If there ever was a true Disney Channel fan girl, then that girl is me! I’ve decided to prove that, by testing my inner fan girl and by testing my writing abilities. Disney Channel just released its 100th DCOM (Disney Channel Original Movie), “Adventures in Babysitting.” They have been celebrating that by having all 100 movies air on TV and made them available on the Watch Disney App. With this freedom to watch each movie, I’ve decided to watch EVERY DCOM in order of release date. As I watch each movie, I will write a blog post for each individual movie! I’ve decided to call it the  ‪”100 DCOMs Watch and Write Challenge‬. If you’d like to keep up with the challenge, then you can catch me using the hashtag  ‪#‎100DCOMsBingeAndBlogChallenge‬ on twitter. My twitter handle is @brittanyalex_5 if you want to follow me. 🙂

Tick-Tock, [Liars]–PLL Season 7

**Disclaimer** Pardon the “French” you’ll read throughout this post. I decided to keep it real today and post exactly what I was thinking as each major thing went down.

I’ll be honest. I was not super excited about the final season premiere of Pretty Little Liars after last season. I’m still not a fan of the Charles to Charlotte storyline, but whatever. I’ll live with it IF season seven continues to be as intense as the first episode was! I don’t think I’ll ever be as obsessed with PLL as I was when I first watched it, re-watched it, and then watched it again. After this premiere though, it just may have me hooked again! This premiere was so intense it had me on the edge of my seat the WHOLE time I was watching! They didn’t even show her that much, but I think this episode proved me to me that Hanna is my favorite Liar! I always thought it was Aria and or Spencer. I was wrong though. There’s something about this episode that has me thinking Hanna is my favorite Liar now. Let me just walk you through my thought process as we progressed through this first episode.

We run into the clock tower at the church with the Liars and Lovers. All we see is Hanna hanging from the ropes the same way Ian was so many seasons ago. (Side Note: We never did learn the actual truth about what happened to Ian. Do you think we will this season? All loose ends have to be tied up right? Including the grand mystery of whatever the hell was/is in the barrel!? NO! I haven’t let that go and I won’t until we learn the truth!) All I could think was “NO! NOT HANNAH! NO!” Then, when we figured out it was just a mask on a dummy I thought, yelled, and tweeted, “Screw you, PPL! How DARE YOU make me think that!!!!!” (Fun fact: My uncle actually read my tweet and asked, “Are you okay?”) Like FOR REAL! I was so pissed I didn’t even feel relieved at first! The relief finally set in though after moment when I realized the body being a dummy meant Hanna was alive!

EVERY TIME Elliot showed up on the screen all I could think was, “Damn you, Elliot!!!!” Why can’t Ali have just ONE PERSON who doesn’t betray her or give up on her even for a moment? Even Emily has had a few moments when she gave up on her, until she believed in her again.

I may or may not have gotten irrationally excited when they mentioned Snookers at Hollis! Then when Spencer asked Aria, “Do you know where that is?” or whatever it was that she asked. I just laughed. Does she know where it is? Is she familiar with it? DUH! That’s where she met and made out with Ezra for the first time! It’s also where he first started to lie to and betray her, but that’s in the past now… right? I don’t know. To be honest, I have a hard time with that. In real life, if I found out someone was lying like that to someone I loved, I wouldn’t be too quick to forget. Sure, I’d forgive, but I would not want her with him. We love the Liars right? They’re like our friends, or maybe even like our family. We’ve spent years of our lives with them! We’ve put just as much, if not more, energy into helping them solve the mystery that is “A” as they have. To quote Dumbledore from Harry Potter, “Of course it’s all in your head, but who’s to say it isn’t real?” That’s not an exact quote, but it’s close enough. The Liars and Lovers are our friends and family just as much as our nonfiction friends and family are. Anyway, on with the post.

When “Spencer” was with Hanna in the dungeon, all I could think was, “Be careful Hanna! That’s not Spencer! It’s them! They’re in a mask! It’s not her! Don’t tell them anything!” I also thought maybe it was a good thing Hanna thought it was Spencer. If it really was someone pretended to be Spencer, then they would know that Hanna would tell her the truth. That would be she was telling the truth when she said she didn’t know who killed Charlotte.

When “B-26” started playing, it pissed me off! I thought it was A at first. I thought, “What!? No! Not B-26! Why!?” Then they showed it was just some random kid and I was even more aggravated! Our emotions are already working overtime right now; we do NOT need to be tricked! Then when Aria went back to Ezra’s and said, “I don’t need to know what we are tonight. I just need to be with you.” My heart melted a little bit. I may not know exactly how I feel about Ezra and Aria being together, but I do believe in first love. Sometimes first love makes you do irrational things. I also believe people can change, so maybe, I hope, Ezra has changed and is here for Aria 100% no questions asked. They never really discussed that issue. They just kind of let it go, which really annoys me.

DUDE! Haleb flames were sparking all over the place tonight! Poor Spencer can see it and Caleb is probably just confused. Yes, he does have feelings for Spencer. He is in love with Hanna though and he just found out that she tried to come back for him, but it was too late. He had already left. He has to be feeling some kind of way about that! If he had just stayed maybe half an hour longer, they would still be together! Besides, Spencer needs to get over Caleb! I was a fan of Spaleb for a little while, because it’s always a little fun to have drama like that every now and then. It’s Haleb and Spoby time now though! I NEED a Spoby moment! We all do!

Mary Drake was first a patient at Radley for the death of a child in her care. What child? We need to think about this. I have a feeling it will come back and we’ll find out that this child was a relative of one of our own Rosewood residents. Do you think we might find out that Charlotte was never Charles? Maybe Charles was the kid that died under Mary’s care. Could Charlotte be Mary’s kid who they just claim was Charles? Maybe Charlotte was the true name of the kid who died and Charles took her name when he changed. The Hasting’s still have a big secret we briefly learned about in the season five finale when the Lovers were looking through A’s files. Who knows who the kid was. We’ll find out soon I’m sure.

Did Ali kill Charlotte? Ali is a lot of things. I don’t think she’s a murderer though. I mean, maybe it’s like with Spencer and Melissa with Alison and Bethany. Maybe it was out of self-defense. Alison loved CeCe and she loved Charlotte. She wouldn’t hurt her, not without being provoked. Who knows?

Caleb ran off with the jacket? What a moron! Caleb! If you would have just waited you might have been able to find Hanna and save her! You moron! You sick in love moron!

“Run, Hanna! Run!” I was quite impressed with Hanna’s escape. I mean, by now, you’d think she’d know a thing or two about being able to escape the evil clutches of A, but still! She impressed me. Then of course freaking Mary had to show up and OH MY GOSH! Just look at that face! THAT was the face I’m pretty sure I made too! Though, I was a little more angry-shocked than terrified-shocked!

clip_image002

Mary isn’t Uber A! She was driving when the dude dressed in black picked up the jacket. It could have been Elliott; I don’t know if I believe it was though. He had been asleep at Alison’s when Emily was there not too long prior to this event. It’s definitely a man. I truly believe it is a man. At this point what woman could it even be? All the women are spoken for in one way or another. At first thought I’m thinking it could be the following suspects. Wren Kingston–because I won’t let that go until the series is over. Jason DiLaurentis–when I first binge-watched PLL Wren and Jason were my first suspects. Peter Hastings. Kenneth DiLaurentis. Byron Montgomery–all the dads have always just creeped me out, well, except Emily’s dad. May he rest in peace.

Also on the list, though not so seriously: Lucas Gottesman–he’s kind of creepy too. Though, he may just be super socially awkward; he has been referred to as “Boo Radley.” Noel Kahn–he’s gotta come back some time, right? Andrew Campbell—he creeps me out too, though idk if it’s because of PLL or if it’s because of his role in The Foster’s. Either way, I’m not crossing him off my list quite yet.

When Elliott went to see Alison, my thoughts went something like this: “Stupid Elliott!!!! No! Damn you!!!!!!!” I HATE him so much! I don’t hate many people, fiction or nonfiction, it’s just not in me to hate someone. I hate, nay, I loathe Elliott with an absolute passion! Nobody claims to love one of my Liars and even marries her only to betray her the way he has! Ugh! I hate him! Then, to make it worse, he had to go and say, “I’ll make sure live a long life. Rotting away in here…. I know you killed Charlotte.” I do have to admit a small part of me is holding onto the hope that maybe, just maybe, whoever is behind all this is wearing an Elliott mask too.

This is going to be a VERY GOOD and EMOTIONALLY TAXING season y’all! They may need to reopen Radley as a mental institute again just so that we can all check in as patients. In a really weird, totally creepy, and absolutely unstable way, it just may be comforting for us to be patients at such a familiar place. We’ll spend all of our time their trying to piece together all the pieces to the puzzle once we have our answers anyway, so we might as well do it where all roads end—Radley Sanitarium. Anyway, I’m actually super excited about this season and I can’t wait to see what happens next! Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to turn out my lights and attempt to sleep. I’m not sure how well I’ll be able to sleep after everything that has happened in two of my three favorite Freeform shows though, but I’ll try. Pray for me y’all! Send positive vibes! Do whatever it is you do for people who need a good experience in their life! I’ll be praying for myself and all of you to be able to shut down your brains and sleep. It may not be possible this season though. It’s like the final minutes in a really intense sports game. It’s crunch time! It’s now or never for our plotting, scheming, and theorizing minds to figure out the truth of Pretty Little Liars before all is revealed in the next year!

P.S. I just looked through an episode guide and  one episode is called “The Wrath of Kahn!” What do you think tha means? 🙊😰

Only 22

When I’m at a loss for words, I write whatever comes to my mind. I do this in an effort to figure out whatever it is I’m feeling. It’s 4:30am on June 11, 2016. A few hours ago, 22-year-old YouTube sensation and star of ‘The Voice’ Christina Grimmie was shot and killed after a concert in Orlando, Florida. She was only 22. I am only 22. All life taken breaks my heart and leaves me wondering why people can be so cruel. This life taken affects me in a way I can’t quite explain. She was only 22. I am only 22. Along with Tiffany Alvord and Megan & Liz, Christina Grimmie was one of the first YouTube stars I ever listened to after learning there was any such thing as “YouTube stars” and “covers.” I have a YouTube channel now. I don’t have many followers and I have a lot of improving to do, but I have a YouTube channel. Seeing all that Tiffany Alvord, Megan & Liz, Christina Grimmie and many others have accomplished has inspired me to reach for my dreams no matter how unattainable they may seem to be. Christina was only 22 and I am only 22. Ideally, 22 year olds should have 50, 60, 90 years left to live! Life should just be beginning for Christina Grimmie. She was only 22. I am only 22. My life is just beginning and sadly, hers has just ended. How is this even real?

I didn’t know Christina, so I have no right to speak or write about her as if I did, so I won’t. I did know of her though. I knew she was a YouTube sensation and a star of ‘The Voice.’ I knew she seemed to be a genuinely sweet and caring person with a heart of gold that was after God’s own heart even when being catapulted into the bright lights of Hollywood. I don’t know Tiffany Alvord either, not really, but I know her about as well as I know any other person I rarely see in person but always see on social media. I actually receive Tiffany’s tweets to my phone because I always love to see what she has to say. Tonight, I did not love to hear what she had to say. Still though, like I often do, I clung to every word she shared. This time it was with a desperate hope that everything would be okay and that maybe I was just viewing the evidence of a sick prank or horrible nightmare. Alas, every word was true though. Christina Grimmie was shot at her concert in Orlando and she did survive. Tiffany said in a Tweet/Instagram post after Christina’s fate was revealed that “Christina has always been so amazing, so sweet, so caring, and loving.” Megan Mace said, “Christina is the kindest, sweetest soul.” I didn’t know Christina, but I do know enough about Tiffany and Megan to know that what they say about people is often true. Therefore, I know that Christina is a beautiful soul. I say this in the present tense, because souls don’t die. They only pass on. As far as I’m aware, Christina was a strong woman of faith, so we can live well in knowing that though she is gone, she is in a better place. Megan Mace also said, “God must have had bigger plans for your beautiful soul than any one of us could see here on Earth.” I know that’s true. I don’t know how, but I know it is. Christina knew this to be true as well, because three years ago she tweeted, “God knows the plans He has for us. So worry not. Which of [you] adds another hour to [your] life by worrying? #constantlesson.” I know she tweeted this because Tiffany, who most of gone through all of Christina’s tweets, retweeted it. I’m glad she knew this. I’m glad she shared this, because it is a beautiful reminder that even through something so heartbreaking, God is with us and using it for our good. Even still, knowing this truth does not mean it is not heartbreaking to lose someone so young. She was only 22. I am only 22.

I didn’t know Christina, but I do know she was only 22. Because I am only 22, I know that no matter how far she had come in following her dreams, her life was still just beginning. In the grand scheme of things, it was like that she was only quarter or even a fifth of the way through what should have been the span of her life. I am only a quarter or even a fifth of the way through what will ideally be the span of my life. It breaks my heart when any life is taken. The taking of Christina’s life breaks my heart in an unexplainable kind of way. She was only 22. I am only 22. It seems impossible that someone my age who was accomplishing so much in the way of her dreams is now gone. She was only 22. I am only 22. How is this even real? How is the world still spinning? For the past four hours since I read Tiffany’s first tweet about what was happening I’ve been refreshing my social media pages every few minutes to see what I can see about Christina. Originally it was for updates in hopes that a miracle would happen. After the confirmation it was in a dazed denial. I didn’t know Christina, but I knew she was only 22. I am only 22. It doesn’t seem real that someone could be taken from this world at 22. I know it happens all the time. I know it happens to people much younger. Still it doesn’t seem real. I’ve scrolled through my social media apps for answers and maybe even to see someone finally say it isn’t real. I don’t know, maybe that she did die but then started breathing again. It doesn’t happen often I know, but it does happen.

In comparison to God, no one in is good, but from a human stand point and a flawed point of view, some people are good in comparison to other people. In our world, there are good guys and bad guys. Christina was good. Even without knowing her, I knew that much. Even without knowing her and without knowing she was good, I know that her fellow YouTube stars/friends are good. Or at least, Tiffany Alvord and Megan & Liz are good. Why do bad things happen to good people? Because just like there is darkness where there is no light, there is evil where there is no God. Sometimes the darkness of this world creeps in as the shadows of those in the light. The darkness of the shooters world unfortunately creeped in as the shadows of Christina’s light. Her light will not be put out though. She may not be here with us physically any longer, but she will always be with us in spirit. Her life and legacy will live on through the music was able to release and through the lives she was able to touch. Her family and friends and fans will not her light go out. Whatever God’s plan is, it likely involves keeping Christina’s light burning in such a way that she can touch more lives than she could have ever dreamed touching when she was still with us.

I didn’t know Christina, but I knew of her. I knew she was only 22 and I am only 22. I cannot believe someone my age was fatally shot in the past 12 hours. Sadly, it is heartbreakingly true though. Among other lost lives I may never know about, Christina’s life was taken from us not twelve hours ago. She will live on though. Even at 22 she left a legacy that will not soon be forgotten. At 22, I will sit her with my phone in my hand and computer on my lap and contemplate the unfathomability of a lost life at only 22. It seems so unbelievable. A girl my age was fatally shot not 12 hours ago. How is this possible? I don’t know. It’s unexplainable, but it true. I have to finish writing this post with the heartbreaking knowledge that yes, it is true. She was only 22 and I am only 22. My life is just beginning and hers has sadly just ended.

With these last words, I will click publish, then close my laptop and lie down to sleep all while whispering a constant prayer in my heart for Christina’s family and friends and fans. I’ll even be praying for the family and friends of the man who shot her. He may have committed a horrible crime, but his family and friends don’t deserve to live a life knowing that someone I’m sure they loved and cared about not only ended someone else’s life, but also proceeded to end his own life. Rest in Peace, Christina, and Rest in Paradise. Sing to Jesus you beautiful girl and if it’s possible for you know to know what’s going on down her on earth, know that I and millions of other people are praying for your family and friends and remembering you as a beautiful human being. Thank you for your legacy. You shan’t soon be forgotten.
